A clip released Tuesday from the docu-series, Keeping Score shows soccer icon, Hope Solo’s breakdown after finding out she was suspended from the US National Soccer Team.
In the clip, Solo learns of the suspension and her contract with the soccer federation is also terminated.
“Seventeen f**king years and it’s over,”
Solo’s termination comes after calling her Olympic components from Sweden “cowards” after the US lost the match in Rio.
“We played a bunch of cowards. The best team did not win today, I strongly, firmly believe that.”
According to Elle Magazine, Keeping Score will follow Solo as well as other US Soccer players during their time in Rio. The clip shows Solo’s reaction on Aug. 24 with US Women National’s Team Coach, Jill Ellis, and Dan Flynn, the US Soccer Secretary General.
US Soccer President, Sunil Gulati labeled Solo’s comments, unacceptable and not an example of the standard of conduct required from the National Team Players.
On Tuesday, Solo announced she is leaving the Seattle Reign,
“Coming to terms with the fact I was fired from the U.S. Women’s National Team after 17 years of service has been devastating. After careful consideration, I have decided to end my season with the Seattle Reign, an organization I love playing for. Mentally, I am not there yet. After watching the team’s win against Portland this weekend and seeing Haley Kopmeyer playing so well in goal, I truly believe this decision is what’s best for me and for the Reign organization.”
