According to KPRC Local 2, The Obama Administration announced this morning that the original $100 limit on Cuban Rum and Cigars that American travelers could return to the states with has been lifted. That basically means, now you can bring back all the Rum and cigars your heart so desires and customs can’t give you any grief about it.
This is a huge benefit for Cuba being that their higher end cigars retail for at least $100 outside of the United States. So far, this law has only been passed for individual buyers for personal use. Cuban tobacco products and alcohol are still not available for purchase in the U.S.
“Challenges remain – and very real differences between our governments persist on issues of democracy and human rights – but I believe that engagement is the best way to address those differences and make progress on behalf of our interests and values,” Obama said in a statement announcing the changes.
